Diver lost - Rosalie Moller

RE: Diver lost - Rosalie Moller
From my friends description it would appear that the DG did lead the group after they had explicitly asked him to take them in. The others on the trip who had decided to dive the wreck all stayed external.

Personally I totally agree with Willo - not a dive to be undertaken lightly or at all by any other than very experianced divers. Even then, as this incident shows, things very quickly can go wrong with dire outcomes.

RE: Diver lost - Rosalie Moller
I watched 'Hitler's Lost Sub' last night, the documentary footage that was filmed in the latter stages of the U-869 story (Shadow Divers book). What struck me is that although it is very dangerous, the wreck didn't look menacing, so I can see how people can be tempted to enter wrecks.

I have read a number of books over the last few months that have made it quite clear in my mind that I will personally only view a wreck externally.

I am currently reading a book on the Andrea Doria and the first female diver who dived the wreck in 1967 touched down at 240ft, she had no BCD and NO pressure gauge, she used her buddies because there air consumption was about the same, they had no knowledge of decompression so didn't do any stops......how mad is that

Anyway sorry gone of the thread a touch

If we're not suppose to eat animals, why are they made of meat?

"The guide made it out but couldn't locate his buddy and so went back down (40+m) to take another look around."

Seems like a good buddy -credit due!

"From my friends description it would appear that the DG did lead the group after they had explicitly asked him to take them in. The others on the trip who had decided to dive the wreck all stayed external."

But not a wholly sensible one. I would hope DG's would take the high road and refuse dive requests that are not entirely safe to plan.

RE: Diver lost - Rosalie Moller
Just got back off Whirlwind in Sharm last week. The Boat involved involved with this awful accident was this one. I talked to one of the guides about what happened the week before.
It looks like the DG was diving with 3 guests. 2 guests buddied up and the other was with the guide. As the guide and buddy left the engine room one of the other guests signaled that he couldn't find his buddy. They all stayed as long as they could to look for him, but quickly ran low on air. They all surfaced without enough air for deco. The DG shouted for more air and imedietly went back down alone.
He did this 4 times but when he came up the last time, he could no longer feel his legs.
He was taken straight away to the chamber where he stayed for 3 days. As far as the guide knew, he is still very poorly.
I find this story totally mind blowing. such courage is incredable !
It also touched me because the guide who did this was our guide when we were on Whirlwind in November. His name is Rada, an Egyptian guide who is very experienced and in my opinion was a fantastic guide. We really enjoyed our week diving with him.

Unfortunatley the diver has so far not been found despite a massive search.
My heart goes out to the guys family, but I can't help but be humbled by the bravery and selflessness of Rada.

Respect!

If you are keeping your head when everyone around you are losing theirs..... you obviously don't understand the gravity of the situation.

Yes very sad and most tragic, just hope the DG makes a recovery.

The first step in diving is getting wet !!

You are better being at the bottom of a ladder of something you enjoy & like doing than at the top of a ladder that you dont enjoy or dislike.

PATIENCE today will bring HOPE TOMorrow
