RE: Great Upgrade Option
If you go to the ORCA website on your laptop in the link I posted there is a memory scanner on the site which will analyse your computer and tell you which type of memory is compatible with your machine.

Replacing it is really easy you just unscrew the bottom of your laptop and unclip the installed memory and clip in the new.

I have VISTA ultimate ... and while you can bung in plenty of RAM, after 3GB it has very little effect as VISTA cannot handle it properly.

You run into a limit that exists in all 32 bit versions of Windows. There is only a 4 GB address space available to a 32 bit OS. Some of this address space is needed to memory map peripherals. The motherboard does this before Windows loads and this determines how much RAM Windows reports. Some motherboards have settings in the BIOS that can change this, most don't. The fix is to run a 64 bit OS.

I went from 2 GB to 4 GB and noticed no improvement, other than an icrease in my credit card bill.

Only 4.9% of the UK population live in Wales - the rest just wish they did.

RE: Great Upgrade Option
Vista 32 bit will recognize and use 4GB, if your system does not recognize 4Gb then my advice would be to check you have SP1 installed.

You are correct if you have Vista 64 your computer will be able to address whatever your motherboard can handle.

If you have not noticed a difference than you are not using video editing software (the reason I posted the thread) or playing computer intensive games. I can assure you if you were you would notice the difference.

I would also add that if you wanted to improve performance of a laptop then replacing the harddrive for a 7200rpm model would have a more noticable effect.

RE: Great Upgrade Option
Another good price for Laptop 2GB Ram

again if you are not sure if this is compatible with your laptop use the Orca memory analyzer in first post.

RE: Great Upgrade Option
Have you got a link to the laptop as different companies have slightly different specs?

£399 seems to be the average price for the model tho.

I have an aspire 5670 which I like and have had no problems with, so I am happy to recommend ACER.

If you send me a link to the laptop I will see what else around that spec you could get.

RE: Great Upgrade Option
I have had a look and can not see any laptops that are significantly better for the price.

It is also for sale at Play.com here.

I only mention it as this should get you a further 5% off

Also not much but 0.5% quidco
