RE: Deal of the day
B&Q and British Gas launch first nationwide light bulb amnesty
As the clocks go back and we all start turning our lights on earlier, B&Q has announced the first ever nationwide light bulb amnesty in partnership with British Gas. From Friday 31 October, anyone who takes a traditional light bulb to any B&Q store in England, Scotland and Wales will receive two energy saving bulbs to replace it, helping customers to reduce both their carbon footprint and electricity bills. In most homes lighting accounts for around 15% of the electricity bill. By changing just one standard bulb to an energy saving bulb, consumers can save £3 per year and 11kg CO2. By replacing all the remaining standard (GLS) bulbs in your home with energy saving bulbs, they could save around £45 a year from energy bills, and 170kg CO2. Euan Sutherland, B&Q Chief Executive comments “Standard bulbs last for between 1,000-1,500 hours - about a year. Energy saving bulbs can last up to 15,000 hours - that's over ten years, saving you money as well as reducing the amount of energy you use. As part of our commitment to One Planet Living we are dedicated to helping customers make their homes as energy efficient as possible, so we hope this light bulb amnesty will encourage people to make the small changes to their homes that are good for their pockets and good for the planet. ” |

RE: Deal of the day
Its all very well saving the environment, but when is someone going to invent a low energy lightbulb that can actually be used for putting your makeup on? Most of them wash out all the colour, so you slap more on, not realising, then you go outside into natural light and then realise you look like a clown.

RE: Deal of the day
As part of the Government’s commitment to reduce the amount of energy we use, eaga, working with the Government and energy suppliers, have one free eaga ShowerSmart available to every household for a limited time only.
Save up to £600 over the product's lifetime. The eaga ShowerSmart is suitable for all non-electric showers and regulates the flow rate to that of a powerful electric shower. For mains-fed showers (where hot water comes from a combi-boiler or similar), this saves both water and the associated energy with heating hot water. For a 2-person household, the eaga ShowerSmart will typically save more than 12,000 litres per year*, cut carbon emissions by 1 tonne* of CO2 over its lifetime and save about £20* on gas and £20* on water bills (where metered) per year. 15 Year guarantee. http://www.eaga.com/freeshowersmart/ |

RE: Deal of the day
Anyone looking for a bike could do a lot worse than this:
Just t hought I'd mention this normally £650, and now reduced to £400 for regular stock - the few flood damaged ones (which they say is at VERY worst cosmetic, maybe only box damage) are now going for £300. As well as that, the Storm 1.0 is going for £500 which is also a bit of a bargain for a Shimano 105 kitted out bike. If you want to get into road cycling, this is about as cheap as it gets. Description: The sharp handling Storm 2.0 combines race inspired geometry with all day comfort. Featuring a 6061 T6 alloy frame with a carbon fork and Shimano Tiagra drivetrain to produce the perfect entry level race bike. Frame: 6061 T6 Alloy Forks: Alloy/Carbon Stem: Alloy Handlebars: Alloy Rear mech: Shimano Tiagra Front mech: Shimano Tiagra Shifters: Shimano Tiagra Brakes: Shimano Tiagra Cranks: FSA Vero Cassette: Sram PG 950 Chain: KMC Z-9000 Rims: Alex RL 2002 Hubs: Looseball Tyres: CST C-Zar Pedals: None Seatpost: Alloy Saddle: BeOne Weight: 9,4g http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Model...elID=25458 |
