Your thoughts on second hand full regs

RE: Your thoughts on second hand full regs
I would also be wary of second hand regs - although if the LDS have serviced them and you trust them they might be OK.

Having recently been on a reg buying binge for my twinset I would agree with Ian that you can get a nice set of Apeks regs brand new for not a lot more than £275

I would suggest XTX40 on a DS4 first stage (about £175) and then an ATX40 octo (£70) and whatever you want to pay for gauges.

Alternatively, if you went for an ATX40 on the DS4 as your primary with the ATX40 octo - Go Dive are doing the whole lot with a 2 gauge console (you don't want a compass on your console!) for £205

I would suggest the XTX40 is a better long term bet so you could give them a ring and see what they charge for that set with the first stage swapped to an XTX40.

I use an XTX50 on a DST as primary with an ATX40 on a DS4 as secondary and they are both excellent. On reflection I wouldn't have bothered with the extra cost of the DST as the DS4 is very good (and much loved by techies). The only minor issue with the DS4 for single cylinder diving is that it only has one HP point so if you want to use an air integrated computer you can't have a mechanical back-up.

P.S. I know Go Dive seem to get a bad press but I have used them and found them very helpful and very cheap: although I go into the shop rather than order on the interweb

RE: Your thoughts on second hand full regs
I'm happy with my basic APEX regs, they will do me for the time being, if ever my diving goes beyond these I will uprade and sell these on fleebay. I'm also happier that these are new.Thumbup

The £205 set is at http://godive.net/gdpacks.htm

Even this set is not a bad long term buy: lots of technical divers use the DS4 and the ATX40 as a secondary. If you want to update in the future you can just add a more modern primary second stage (XTX...).

Stuart

Just looked at Go Dive site: price difference between ATX40 and XTX40 is £24 (look in "Apeks Regs on DS4 do you DIR") so I would spend the extra cash and get the XTX40

That's the offer I bought from GoDive, it cost me £175 without the console. They work ok so far, I don't really understand what the differences are between these and the XTX200 apart from the price. I guess they would not be sold if they did not work properly!!

No question that they work fine - they are good regs - just older model than the XTX stuff and £175 is a bargain!

RE: Your thoughts on second hand full regs
Yea I only saved £30 without their console. Might have been good to have as a spare or one to use with a pony!
