Anyone fancy this
I have been thinking about taking part in this event

Al Andalus Ultra Trail

Has anyone done this or something similar?

If I do this event I would be doing it for one of the following charaties:

Cancer Research UK
The Children's Trust
Concern
Mencap
MS Ireland
Muscular Dystrophy Campaign
Wellchild

I have added a poll to see which charity to to consider supporting. I am not sure how to go about raising the money needed to take part so any suggestions would be apreciated.

They're all equally worthy charities, mate.

Best of luck whichever you choose.

My brother did a similar thing last year across Vietnam. He found is very hard, but enjoyable and worthwhile, having spent months training for it. If you want I can out you in touch with him for some hints & tips on both fund raising & training.

RE: Anyone fancy this
That would be great, it is by no means certain I am able to do it and I will not know for certain until March-April whether I can take part as I could be posted in that period.

I would obviously start training far earlier in preperation but the fund raising would have to wait until I could confirm I would be allowed to do it.

RE: Anyone fancy this
I did a trek in Southern Chile for Mencap in 2000 Thumbup

I admit it was the place that took the priority, however I do support mencap and many other charities when I can !

The trek was in the Torres Del Paines National Park - totally unbeleivable
Flew to Santiago, then down to Punta Arenas, then drove out to the park
Glaciers, mountains, rivers ..... Big GrinBig GrinBig GrinBig Grin
Walk all day, ground support of locals, camped out at night - thermals !!

Happy to help re fundraising ideas etc

Go for it

RE: Anyone fancy this
I must admit that when looking at these sort of events in the past I wanted to do the Inca trail, that said as it stands I should be able to take part in this event.

In the past I have helped with the James Hopkins Trust which helps terminally ill children but that was when I was a teenager.

My wifes grandmother has had cancer twice but I do not have any strong afiliation to any of the mentioned charities. If there is someone on here that has been effected by an issue covered by the above charaties then I am happy to do the event (work willing) for the charity that is relevant to them.

RE: Anyone fancy this
Does it have to be a people charity? What about a marine conservation one?

I'd really like a signiture, but due to a terminal lack of imagination . . .

RE: Anyone fancy this
The charaties listed are the charaties that are linked to the event. I supose it would be possible to run it for anyone but the usual steps of having to raise £2000 (I have not seen a minimum limit yet as details not out yet) and they cover cost of event.

To do the event as an individual costs about £700. I am not sure how it would work legally to raise the money for a charity and then use part os sponsorship to cover costs.
