a bit of advice on courses
Hello

My girlfriend has been itching to learn how to dive for a couple of years and really wants to do a PADI course.

With one thing or another we haven't been able to afford it, but this christmas i'm thinking of treating her and buying it for her

We live in Nottingham and i've found some places in Leicestershire and Stoke that run the courses.

My question is have you got any recommendations as for places to go to learn?

Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, i did do a search before i posted

Thanks in advance

RE: a bit of advice on courses
There are many places that you can learn and, in theory, all will provide the same level of tuition. Not all, however, have all their own facilities so there are often other costs to add to the initial cost of the course so ask about the total cost prior to booking.

The 2 biggest in your area, both with full facilities on-site are Dive In at Gildenburgh Water (http://www.divein.co.uk/Courses/Beginner...water.htm) & Stoney Cove (http://www.stoneycove.com/learn_academy.htm).

RE: a bit of advice on courses
May not be the best time to learn, see if the course people will sell you the training but do it a bit later in the year.

Reason I make this comment is that my BSAC club used to train people in the pool over the winter and we'd end up taking them to Stoney or similar in February - by then people had bought all their gear and were committed, but if they hadn't been so keen the cold water would have put a fair few off...

Hi Qbert

welcome to the forums.

If you are short of cash and not in a massive hurry then take a look at your local BSAC clubs Wink

The guys at the Dive School at stoney are great. Plkus you can buy a gift voucher from them (which comes as a presentation A4 thing so you can actually give her something rather than just saying "By the way, I've also got you this"). That way, you can do it at your leisure.

Failing that, do it in the winter months with someone other than Stoney that offers a drysuit course thrown in with the package.

Just my 2p

Erm... What?
