Cheap flight from East Mids/Birm to Sharm el Sheik, Egypt (£70 return look for cheap deals!) Taxi to Dahab (£15) 'Hostel type' stay at 'Bishi Bishi' ($7 per night per room - not per person! Basic room and a bit rough but if your a seasoned traveller you'd be OK with it - hence the question about how 'rough' you can be) then a quick barter with Paul at Red sea relax (£200 for Open water course maybe?) and you could probably get a Holiday AND learn to dive for a reasonable price - I suspect, without looking, that it would come close to the price of a UK course ($250 in Derby!) but you've done it in the Red sea!! Just an alternative thing to think about? Speak to Paul first tell him your plan and get a price? He's a good lad and will be open to discussion I'm sure! http://www.red-sea-relax.com/ Good luck, let us know what ya decide? Mick |

RE: a bit of advice on courses
I can recommend S+O in Stoke they are very good and the training is to the highest standard. I would avoid Go Dive at all costs but the guys Zok works with are very good just can't remember the name of the school (zok help me out here will you.)

RE: a bit of advice on courses
Blimey, i was expecting a reply or 2, not 3 pages!
some of it is at a tangent, but i'm just pleased of the warm welcome! you've given my plenty to think about, i presumed the cost of doing it abroad would be too much but it's a definite option my only reservation would be at least if she starts in this country she'll know how cold it is from the offset! i'll have a think over the weekend and let you know what i go for cheers |

My Open Water was a birthday pressie (June) and doing our qualifying dives in August was positively warm. Actually thinking back, that course was (in the long run) one of the most costly things anyone has ever bought me! |
