Ist UK dives done
Did my 1st couple of UK dives at Capernwray yesterday with Sira. Had a great time - good fun. I did, of course, come across like the warm water diver that I am. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how warm the drysuit and undersuits kept me.

We did 2 dives the 1st for 29 mins to see the underwater horses that I wanted to see - not even a go on my regs could revive one of them! And seeing a cow on one of the boats just made Si hungry and want a burger for lunch.

It was a definite learning experience being in a drysuit and coldwater so I thought I would share. Lessons learned (in no particular order):

(1) The wearmest place a Cappers is in the toasty changing rooms
(2) When they advertise baked potato with chilli they really do mean it
(3) The way to make me incapable of doing anything is to put me in a drysuit and have me wear 5mm gloves. I then am unable to put my own weight pockets in, fix my own mask, or put on my own fins. I can just about still find the inflator button on my BC.
(4) When the website for Cappers says the water is 11 degrees they are lying it is 9 degrees.
(5) Once your lips go numb the cold doesn't bother them anymore
(6) Plastic gloves on 1st really are a handy way to get your neoprene gloves on once wet.
(7) When you are heading rowards the surface feet 1st rather quickly it is nice to have a buddy to grap you back down.
(8) Divers really are nuts especially those who were diving in wetsuits.

Those are just some of the things I learned yesterday! I might even do it again. Thumbs Up

I'd really like a signiture, but due to a terminal lack of imagination . . .

Lmao sounds like you had a really good day, i know exactly what your saying i did my OW in Vobster in April this year it was 7 degrees 7mm wet suit but i still enjoyed it, I then when out to the Maldives 2 days later and was diving in a 3mm shorty at temps of 29 degrees, hence the reason ive been a bit reluctant getting back into UK waters lol

Glad you had a great time, it's completly different to warm water diving. I've done most of my diving here in inland quarries to it's fast becoming the norm!Drool
So were the gloves ok?

RE: Ist UK dives done
Sounds like fun. I too am a sole warm water diver yet to enbark upon an adventure into the icy waters of the UK. I am partially looking forward to it, yet seen as the cold and i do not agree on many things (especially the temperature), i feel that i will probably void all of my diving knowledge (which isn't actually that much yet), and turn into ice.

Why is it that everyone's signature is better than mine?

Yeah the gloves were good - didn't get too cold. Still would have preferred to be warmer but since I lost all dexterity in 5mm I won't be getting thicker ones.

Yeah we had a good time - I was very thankful to have someone to look after me - even more so to have someone who could actually put my fins on and who was happy to trudge back to the truck to get more weight when I refused to descend! He was a star. Smile
