knive crime and diving

RE: knive crime and diving
Problem with the legislation is that the old bill have so many people putting forward dodgy reasons for having, knives, baseball bats, hockey sticks in the backs of their cars that the law is a bit unpredictable unless you have a very good and obviously genuine excuse.

I do think the courts have been pretty savvy in dealing with the dodgy excuses so the "I am a gardner/builder/carpet layer - and oh! I forgot it was in my pocket" doesn't work.

There was a story (no idea of whether it is true) that there was a sports shop in south east London which sold more baseball bats than any other shop in mainland UK (there is a brisk trade in Belfast as well!) but had never sold a ball or glove!

if the knife is stowed away in the bottom of your kit bag, the police would only find it if they had a very good reason to stop and search you.

The problem here is that of the way the police deal with these issues - and that is probably down to target-led policing.
That and some of them are just plain gormless.
There was a case of a journo a while back got his collar felt for having a penknife, in a briefcase, in the boot of the car that he was driving. Ok after spending several hours in the cells the desk sergeant waved him off but still - I wouldn't have been very happy - and it's hardly worse than the big Rambo knife some divers seem to favour, legitimate cause or not.

In the late 70's a copper demanded an acquaintance of mine turn his pockets out - and on finding a box of swan vesta next to his packet of No6 growled triumphantly "I'm going to do you - conspiracy to commit arson !" I've never forgotten that pr*ck.

Moral of the story: if the police want to nick you whether you have commited an offence or not they can and will. And there's nothing you can do about it.
Ask Damian Green.

Or ask the squadie the three brave officers pinned to the ground and battered.

I would like to meet those 3 with a few of my mates and see how they would come out in a fair fight. I have not looked into it yet having only seen the video once but if there names and numbers become public which they should god help them, as people far nastier and bigger than me will be looking for them.

On a lighter note. A mate of mine over here told me a story that
as a kid (20 odd years ago) he stole something from his local
shop. When his parents found out, they put him in the back of their
stationwagon with a shotgun & shovel drove him in to the outback
& started digging a hole. Scared He's never stolen anything since.
Ahhh the good ol days.

Perhaps it is better to be irresponsible and right, than to be responsible and wrong.

And they wonder why we don't trust or cooperate with them.

God bless George Bush and America.
