Experience with baggage allowances on the Easyjet flight from Manchester to Sharm. My kit including cameras and housing and back plate rig weighs in at around 26 kg, boss buddies BC based set up is just under 20 kg. Beware that the wording on the Easyjet website is not immediately clear, though if you chase down all the references it is consistant. Deal is you can pay a sports baggage premium which gives you a second bag allowance with, on the face of it, a 20 kg weight allowance. This would appear to be in addition to the 20 kg that you get with booked hold luggage. The catch is that your total baggage allowance is maximum 32 kg per passanger however it is distributed and however many bags it is distributed across. So in reality if you have already booked the hold luggage option, your sports baggage purchase gets you only an additional 12 kg of weight. Confirmed this is the case by email with their customer service. The get out for us was that the hand baggage is by volume not weight, so we packed all the high density stuff in the hand luggage. Downside was that our hand luggage was actually heavier than our hold luggage, and we had to lug it around. For future reference Monarch offer a similar sports baggage deal, but as far as I read the Monarch website, the deal is a real 20 kg of additional sports baggage and cheaper than the Easyjet , so Monarch are likely to be top of my list for my next trip to Egypt. Cheers Harry
How can you take that much to Egypt. The only time we've needed extra was going to dive in the arctic.
Not flown Monarch for a couple of years but HATE them, very cramped legroom (and narrow seats). IME the luggage allowance for divers is an extra 5kg on top of the standard luggage allowance (free on production of a cert card) and around £9/kg excess charges if you go over weight.
Looks like the Monach free 5 kg for certified divers is now to Egypt only. Check the information at booking time, lots of airlines are/have changed the way they charge baggage recently. Roy, I wish I knew. Could be all the H's on the gear, they cost a lot maybe they weigh heavy as well The backplate is aluminium, could be the f1 fins ? I kid you not my kit in it's scubapro caravan wheeled bacg is 25 kg + Cheers Harry
Buy a cheep wheeled holdall from argos 1.5kg and then a jacket with pockets I managed to get my SLR camera underwater camera housing lenses notebook and leads in my jacket it weighed in at about 6kg then sirlankan airways didnt even bother weighing the hand luggage Spelling affected by Rioja
I'm waiting for one these to arrive Cabin Max A light weight rucksack at 0.7Kg and designed to fit within airline hand baggage sizes.
Try amazon Phil they have a bag the fits the exact hand luggage size. Eazy jet unlimited weight for hand luggage and the meg.fits.
Without bottles I guess ?? Been looking at the innerspace systems pages. Interesting kit. Re-breathers have come a long way since I last looked. Still rather a minority sport though "and there are over 1000 Meg CCR systems in the field" Cheers Harry
This thread has gone a bit off-topic with discussion about security checks and what you can/can't take through as hand luggage. Rather than let the helpfull info about which airline lets you have what weight of gear get lost I have moved most of the discussion about hand luggage and security checks to THIS new thread (no posts have been deleted). you know jenkins...i feel that you are just a bit too eager to delete posts and mod threads..its getting ridiculous! if people ask about airport security its still relevant...and some people actually might find what was said helpful to get them through an airport a little easier! you really need to stop jumping in like you do...and you yourself entered into the discussion that ensued to take it off topic!
Yes a thread about airport security is both interesting and relevant to UKD and I repeat NOTHING HAS BEEN DELETED just moved to keep the two conversations from detracting from each other. Jenkins
