A few of you might know that I and the luckiest girl in the world Scrawn are getting married next year.

We've been looking into doing a full cave and advanced cave courses as part of the honeymoon:thumbup: …………………………………and it wasn't my idea :D

As the UK doesn't do pretty holes in the ground we have been looking further afield.

So has anyone got any recommendations for instructors who operate out of Mexico......

Id recommend doing a cavern course first with Martyn Farr in Wales. You'll dive in the Silica Mines at Dinas and will be a great start before doing full cave in Mexico.

Zero Gravity in Mexico are supposed to be awesome, but you'd have to do Fundies first ;)

If you don't want to use Zero Gravity, then there are plenty of other options (although less hard-core). A cave-guide friend of mine out there recommends Yukatek http://www.yucatek-divers.com/english.html , but that's mainly 'cos one of his drinking buddies works for them.

I have also heard good things about Labna Ha: http://www.labnaha.com/en/cave_tc_en.html , but know nothing else about them

Steppie went with a brit named Budgie a couple of years back: he offered training, as well as cavern tours, but his website appears dead now.

I will make an enquiry of another guy I know in Cancun, and see who he recommends.
If you are doing hard-core caves, you will want to stay in Playa del Carmen or even further south, eg Tulum.

(oh and just a word of warning: if you are out there in August, then I will almost certainly be around:devil:)

    Cheers fella

I'm also trying to tie Phil Short down on dates for next year so maybe France or Florida but Lou wants to do Mexico so she can watch some Mexican wrestlers ??????? don't ask why as I don't really know why we're planning a honeymoon around Mexican wrestlers.

How I'm going to fit all this in around my CCR I really don't know ;)

We used a very good and experinced British Cave diver named Eric "Budgie" Burgess based in Tulum in the Yucatan. He is an ex-Royal Navy man and very helpful and reliable. Has links with good local accommodation too and will see to it that you don't get ripped off by the local cowboys.

Paul Hughes of Hidden Depths World Tours in Salisbury knows Budgie and can arrange bookings easily.

Granted I may end up being a human shaped cork :)

I don't think I could ever be called Scrawny, buff or even an adonis may be but never Scrawny :)

Nice one guzzler:). Keeney if you get stuck make sure it's not head first as you know what these caver's are like with tight dark holes.

Bk they will send you in first. That way if you get stuck then your not blocking the exit for the others.

But do the intro to caves with Martyn Farr.

    Hi BK,
My mate in CanCun finally woke up and replied (spring break got in the way, methinks). His recommendations are Harry Gust (http://www.cave-diving-mexico.com/courses.htm) or Steve Bogaerts (http://www.aztecdiving.com/who.htm).
He also says "You got to be carefull now cause there is a bunch of newbees with no experience trying to make a dollar".

As they always say, it is the instructor that counts!

ZG are really good. And there I was thinking you thought it doesn't matter what agency you train with, it's the instructor and teaching that counts ;)

Adam and Ella at www.caveheaven.com are definitely worth speaking to. They teach a number of flavours, NSS-CSD and also more recently UTD, are really nice people and superb divers, actively involved in exploration. Ella is also a superb sidemount diver and kick boxer so she could teach the missus a number of disiplines in which she can kick your arse ;-) They have also just recently expanded their operation and have their own accomodation and workshop etc.

You can also check out Marcus and Min Lee at H2O www.h2oprodiving.com who also teach and have thei own villa which is where I stayed. I dived with Marcus and he was brilliant.

Have fun dude, you'll love it, and be sure to get a small camera and housing, and sell up in UK cos you'll never want to leave.
