Having gone through a couple of IANTD manuals (deep diver and ART) Tom Mount gets quite serious about survival skills and mentality. To keep it simple he recomends meditation level pre dive visualisation and some SAS style cardio levels. My question is...Does anyone try to do these things and to what extent.??? I try to do a quick chill/visualisation in water just before descent but little else. I'm also well unfit. C
I've just started reading "technical diving from the bottom up" and there's a lot at the beginning about breathing, zen, meditation etc...I'm just waiting for him to start talking about the benefits of a 'dive bonsai'
I take a few seconds to mentally dump any unwanted baggage, engage dive mode then It does help to give a bit of focus to what you are doing, I've found myself thinking what I have to do at work the next day, not much good to your buddy if problems occur, or the enjoyment of the dive.
I like to assemble my kit, test it, think about it, just spend a couple of minutes looking over it for anything unusual/amiss. Have anther moments pause for thought when I'm in full kit and ready for stepping off the boat/entering the water. A final run through the kit in my mind when I'm at the surface, recheck the reg, recheck the contents gauge, before submerging. Works for me. Harry
Keeping fit to dive and taking a moment before a dive to relax and slow, and bring the breathing under control is all in the dive planning.
I like to belt one out just before, can't beat a good post coital dive........ Sent from my iPhone using Forum Runner
