Has anyone done a dry dive in the chamber? ...and what I mean is a dry dive pre booked and not one done as a result of getting bent. I'm thinking of doing one, just because I have been told that they are worth doing once. Any thoughts/opinions?
I'll see what it's like, if it's anything worth noting then I'll log it. Something wrong with logging dry dives?
Well apart from the fact that it's not actually a dive you mean? It's a hyperbaric treatment. I don't think it's applicable to any of these. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/dive Sure it's an experience and probably a valuable one at that but a dive?
Log it if you want. I've done about 15 dry dives, some as treatment, some while under training (which I had to log), some for reasearch. Its certainly worth doing, in my opinion.
I agree that it's not a dive but it is a dive related experience and one you can learn from. I will more than likely log it.
Trying to argue with a woman... Oh dear Swimming is not like diving, you don't experience the same pressure, issues as a pot 'experiance', scuba dive or free dive.
But a dry dive is not like diving either as you don't experience the same sensations (Wet/cold) or physical exertion as scuba dive/freedive and you certainly don't see much. In fact a dry dive has a lot in similar with sitting on an aeroplane during take off and landing. Bed now. I'll catch up tomorrow.
You do feel cold, when you "come back up" it gets cold, "going down" you get very warm so you will likely sweat getting you a little wet. The pot experience is closer to diving (on your body) than swimming is. I get wet in the bath, should I log that?
Your log book, your choice, it's that simple! I dived 'The Rez' and logged it as it was a diving experience Sent from my iPad using Forum Runner
I dry dived to 50 at Rugby. Good experience but didn't feel any narcishness at all. Squeeky voice though.
Pop round to my place, pay me 50 quid and i'll put you under presure . log that if you like but guareteed you wont need to as the experience will last forever
I'd like to experience a pressure chamber (Not keen on the Big Si option to be honest, even for £50 ), but the couple I've approached on a personal basis haven't responded. They seem to like clubs to send a chamber full from what I can tell. M
Well, MDC want between 6 and 10 divers and they run regular sessions. I'll post on here when I have some dates.
I did a dry dive many years ago for pleasure and last year clocked up a further 8 (in 2 different chambers) in treatment and my advice would definatly to do one for fun if you have the chance. The staff will use it as an oportunity to teach you about hyperbaric treatment and how the chamber works, which makes the whole experience slightly less traumatic if/when you need to go in for treatment as you aren't entering quite as alien an environment and have an idea of what to expect. You will also probably be taken down to around 50m where you WILL be narked and able to see just how much your reflexes and thought processes are reduced. Also the guys will teach you loads about recognising a bend and how/where to go for treatment/advice if you suspect you have a problem. I know personally when I was bent initially I could have easily ignored/dismissed the symptoms (denial is a BIG problem with DCI) but instead got advice, which meant I got treatment before I deteriorated too far - generally the sooner you get treatment the less sessions you will need and the more complete your recovery will be.
Let us know how you get on. If you have a computer with the download ability it'd be interesting ot see the profile too.
MDC is a really nice chamber and I know the guys will look after you and make sure you come away having had a really enjoyable time AND learnt far more than you ever thought there was to know about diving medicine
