    Hi to all

    Need some feedback.

Im looking into purchasing a diving torch as primary. A canister light with chord and would need to be depth rated to at least 150m. Not planning such dives for now, but would want something that would cater for such dives later on. I know there are going to be lots of opinions on the matter but would appreciate all feedback.

Greenforce at the moment seems to tick all the boxes.

What's your budget? Do you have a preference for HID or led? What kind of burntimes would you like?

Budget...a good question. Im usually of the mind of getting the best there is for my needs therefore budget not necessarily an issue at this point. Burn time between 2-4 hours. LED.

I'm in the market for something along the same lines as you, unfortunately I don't quite have the budget for one just yet - this is what's currently top of my wish list: Metalsub KL1242l. Not sure if that's the kind of thing you're looking for, but it meets your 2-hour burn time and depth requirements.

I'd be interested to hear opinions - I was impressed with one of Metalsub's backup torches when I tried it out, but I've no experience of their umbilical range.

Give clanger a shout and ask him about his Light-For-Me led umbilical torch

Cheers, Silty. I'd seen those LFMs, but didn't think they were too well represented in the UK... just had a search through the forum and see they've now rectified that.

I'll start nagging MC once I've saved a few pennies, first ;)

Hmmm, have read over the other channel...certainly some mixed reviews there, including threats of being sued being banded about. Says enough to me about them.

It would be worth reading through this current thread on "the other side", quite a good bit of info there:

    http://www.yorkshire-divers.com/forums/torches/184960-replacement-torch-me.html

I've got a GreenForce MonoStar P7 with F2 battery. The head is LED 900 lumen, with a 7 degree beam and a nice 30 degree halo. Burn time is 4 hours, with a 2 hour recharge time. I lent it to the OP of the YD thread, and he was quite impressed when comparing it to a HID lamp.

If you're already thinking about GreenForce, it's worth giving Rob Lumb a call. He is the UK importer, and will give great advice as to what will suit you. He is on 0161-681-5790. He may be able to advise how to get hold of them in Malta if it's costly to post it.

I think clanger had a positive experience with them but based on the comments of others in that thread I think I would be looking a little closer to home if I was in the market for a new can light.

As previously mentioned by bobdob, Rob Lumb gets some really good feedback from customers regarding the GreenForce torches he sells.

But he's not closer to home to the OP. ;)

Yes we are tiny and have our limitations, which normally includes availability of products. But we manage just fine. It normally requires purchasing items from abroad which can be an issue should problems develop. Hence trying to purchase something good from the start and that would include excellent after sales service.

Ive looked into the light monkey, metalsab and the light for me. Was quite interested in the light for me lights but they seem to be tested to 10 bar - 100m, which would not satisfy my requirements, otherwise they seem well made.

I had exchanged some mail with them last year and were quick with their response, so got a good feeling about dealing with them. anyway it seems to be the usual suspects being recommended so ill stay tuned for more info. thanks

Just had a thought, maybe you've already had it. Why not pop over to Diving Matrix, they are one of the most techy operations in Malta, and may be able to give you great advise on the torches they use.

They are based in Techwise at the Westin Dragonara Complex.

I have been waiting over a month for a LFM torch. Not good.

Wrekrab and I both love our Greenforce torches - not cheap, but interchangeable so you can upgrade/replace the head/battery without having to buy a whole new system.
