Hi Brian,

I have glasses too but at the moment dive without as I haven't sorted anything out yet. Fortunately my eyesight isn't too bad so I can see things still. You have a few options really.

1) Get a prescription mask
2) Get contacts
3) Have a nice optician shine a nice laser in your eyes.

If you know your prescription then a prescription mask is probably the cheapest. Your local dive shop should be able to help you out there. I'm going for contact lenses. The reason for this is that I want to have nice sunglasses and don't want to have to pay Oakley a huge premium for the privilege of not being dazzled AND things not being blurred. So if I get contacts I can use my regular Oakley's and a regular mask and as an added bonus loose the glasses! Also I'm too wimpy for option 3!

Welcome to UKDivers btw Smile

RE: Glasses
Hi Brian

I wear glasses (short-sighted) - for Scuba I wear contact lenses (and have done for swimming for years) I find this works well. You should be able to get a supply of daily disposables to use for when you go diving if you don't want to wear contacts the rest of the time. If you don't fancy contacts then it is possible to get presecription lenses for a number of masks. I think if you search for prescription in the forums you'll find some other threads on the subject with the names of suppliers.

Good luck

Julian

RE: Glasses
Contacts are not an option for me and as I have +6 and +7 so I have had bonded bifocal lenses put in my mask - http://www.axisoptical.co.uk are very helpful. Not cheap at £100 but well worth every penny

RE: Glasses
I have contact lenses which I mostly use, but also have a prescription mask which I use when not using contacts.

If you use soft contact lenses get the disposable ones and throw them away after diving. I got an infection and it took 6 weeks of antibiotic drops to clear it.

Good advice. This is what I use and I've never had a problem.

RE: Glasses
I just coughed up £90 for a new prescription mask, because I REALLY need to be taking a spare.
They are better than my bins !

Been watching Richard Widmark in "The Frogmen" with them on - daughter trying to get me sectioned..........

My problem is corneal erosions due to dry eyes and scarring from previous attempts at wearing contacts years ago rather than the prescription.

I keep my mask in its case and just put my glasses in there if I am boat diving. For shore diving I have a container I put in my bcd pocket so I don't have to walk around blind to get to the water. Just swap over at the water's edge. I do get a few funny looks now and again from people who think I am going diving in my glasses though!
