Kevin Hi Gnomad. Your requirements are certainly challenging. Personally I have not dived either Cypress or Greece but have heard the diving around Zakynthos is good. I sailed around the Island a few years ago, it's relatively easy to find an unspoilt place to spend an evening and chill with a quite recreational drink. The people are friendly and food was great. I dont think it's become too developed and would go back anytime. A couple of web sites to visit: http://www.zanteweb.gr/turtlebeach/index.html http://www.ionian-islands.com/zante/ws/nerosport/index.htm Good luck and please let us have a report on where you go for future a visit.
gnomad Aw frog....I do need a baby sitter for my 2 rats...(I'm led to believe you're a fellow rat fancier). Unfortunately I've got them to wear a mask but they just won't keep the reg in and their BCD's keep sliding forward (think about it) so they have to stay behind. Looks like Cyprus may be the go Thanks All for the help Cheers Gnomad Every man dies....not every man lives!
Davey_Willo Hiya gnomad I can only speak of Cyprus as I was diving there last year. We stayed in Protaras and I dived with a company called Herbies Diving Paradise.... not a bad crew at all but I'm afraid they were a German owned business and therefore attracted German divers. This was no real biggy, but its nice to have a good post dive babble with your buddy's about events, things seen etc, well unfortunately all of my buddy's were German and so the post dive babble consisted of lots of Germanic wranting and laughter interspersed with the odd jabbed finger in my direction and words like "Dave... you like? ist gut ya??" to which I would nod and reply "Ya!"... obviously... Anyway... to the diving, As I had learnt to dive in the UK, Cyprus was my first venture into warm water diving I thought it was fantastic, I did expect to see more life than I did (obviously looking at too many red sea pics) but I was still blown away. All of the dives except the two on the Zenobia were shore dives, an easy drive by landrover and a short walk to the waters edge. I dived the Cape Greco caves, Green Bay, The Canyon, Chapel (twice) Cape Awkward (which wasn't) and others that I can't remember the names of now Cyprus is blessed with clear blue waters, zero currents, caves, swim thrus, and much more. All of the fish appeared relatively small, although I saw a fairly large black trigger fish and also got to follow a school of pipe fish which were pretty cool. But! the main thing about Cyprus and diving is the..Zenobia!! YOU MUST DIVE THE ZENOBIA!!! Did you get that??.. I'll say it again... YOU MUST DIVE THE ZENOBIA!!! lol.... sorry for shouting.... let me explain. You may know these facts but heres goes anyway... The Zenobia is a RO-RO Ferry (Roll on Roll off) that sank on its maiden voyage in 1980, It was laden with cargo and passengers, huge articulated lorries chained to its decks and holds full of vehicles. Its ballast computers went belly up and the whole thing started to list, so it was sailed into Larnaca Bay and the passengers and crew disembarked, then it was backed out into deeper waters where it turned on its side and sank into 40m of water. She now lays on her side and is a major attraction to divers who visit Cyprus. I've dived her twice and my only regret is that I only booked two dives. The wreck is huuuuge, you can swim all around her, and even penetrate a little, even diving it twice you'll only get to visit a small portion of this behemoth cos its just too big. The dive package I went on for the Zenobia included a large and extremely comfortable hardboat, which sat over the wreck for the whole day while we dived, then had a nice Surface Interval sunbathing on the deck followed by a second fantastic dive, only to then be presented with a fantastic lunch cooked by the crew. I highly recommend Cyprus just for the Zenobia alone, it is rated as one of the best wreck dives in the world and for me is a 'must do' dive. Heres a link that might give you an idea of what I'm on about http://www.buddydivers.com/Sites/Zenobia/Zenobia.html Hope this helps Best regards Dave.
Frog You jammy git! Hope you have a fab time out there. I've never dived there but would seriously love to. Em, you don't need a Frog to go with you, do you? Tell us all about it as and when you get back please! Dive safely.
Frog A FULL report when you come back please! Viz, depth and so on. Make us all envious - especially those who have never dived there...
