We're thinking of diving Hodge Close next Saturday and I just wondered if anyone has any little stories or reports on the place.

Mmmmmmmm.... I'm so looking forward to it now....
Its a long while since I dived it in fact I did my Divemaster map there.
What I remember, the tunnel to the water side quite impressive, the ladder down is at a quirky angle. If i recall correctly its treated as an altitude dive?used to be a notice to that effect. At the far side at about 25m theres a tunnel system, has claimed many lives. One brings you on a complete loop the other goes off into some god forsaken area. Personally i'd stay well out of the caves.
There is what they call the sump, facing the far quarry wall to the left towards the jetty is what is or was known as the sump. Basically a pool that goes under a rock wall (you can see daylight the orther side). Follow the path left along the quarryside then into a tunnel at the end you'll see a shallow pool, the idea being you kit up launch yourself into what seems like oblivion in the dark, as you submerge you'll see daylight the other side of the ledge, swin under the rock overhang and out and exit next to the jetty.
Since its been a while since i was last in there apologies if things have changed.
Hope this helps

Hodge Close is the only dive i have had that i regret expelling energy over.
It was the middle of winter not long after the huge rockslide they had there. Our dive gear froze to the ground and after the torturous walk through the water logged 100m tunnel that is not high enough to stand up in, you have to negotiate a 10' ladderand then scramble down the rocks to the waters edge. The dive itself is extremly cold and boring with a depth of about 28m (was 36 before rock slide). Then you have to get out!
But apart from that it is a fantastic dive

But it's one of those Got to try it dives innit, just so it can go in the book and also when people keep saying to me "Hey have you tried Hodge Close" I will then be able to say yeah and give em a story... good or bad...
Thanks for the input Ian, at least I'll be doing it in summer but the water will probably be just as cold.... thankgod for Weezle

If it gets too cold Pete there's nothing to connect a pee valve to.... I need to sit down for one....

Hiya Tony
Nice to see you on this board too mate.
Do you fancy a visit there pretty soon then? we could do it before or even after the YD Abbs trip, although looking at the weather recently with all of the northerly's blowing in, the sooner might be better than the later.
It shouldn't be too much of a haul from your place either is it?
Dave.
