UKDivers has been a little ill just recently. More serious than a dose of "man-flu", the system was brought to a shuddering halt as a result of a power outage at a major ISP. On a positive note, we've tested the recovery procedures, then decided we'd better re-write them from scratch! A massive thanks goes to Gareth Burrows, aka Garf, who's technical skills have brought the forum back from the brink (and that's no understatement). So a huge cheers Garf. Beers (other tipples are available) will be winging their way in your direction soon.
I think the e-mail template needs looking at (or some other setting somewhere). If I try to follow links from the notification emails I get a 'thread could not be found'
The big issue is browser caching. You may be pointing at an invalid URL as we've moved the forums up to the root: Was: http://ukdivers.com/community Now: http://ukdivers.com (HTTPS works too) Some browsers need a cache clearing. If all else fails, use the default document directly: http://ukdivers.com/index.php
I solved the problem by deleting ukdivers from my browser favourites and logging in from scratch, then putting the working site back into favourites. It's bad enough when it's your work to keep things going, a real bu**er when you are a volunteer. Respect to those that got things working again.
I've just found a problem with the PM system - I get an email saying someone has responded to my PM conversation, and if I click the link in the email, I get a "he requested page could not be found." error. If I log into the website, I see it no problem. The link in the email has "/unread" at the end, but the link from the forum does not.
I'm still having problems following the links in the e-mail i get when a forum post gets updated. Get a page not found.
We've got a major rebuild of the forum to do in the not too distant future. This should sort out these issues.
Just to let you know that we're doing some work on the servers which might account for some odd glitches... Looking forwards to UKD working all tikety-boo.
Any news on this? For me personally, I do most of my forum browsing through Tapatalk, and whilst this function is not working I'm not on as much. TG
Thanks for the kick Tim We were building a new server with 123-Reg but the dozy sods deleted it in their great VM massacre. They did refund me, but I've cancelled the contract as it's clear that cheap is a false economy. So I need to pull my finger out and get us on to a decent platform, AWS. Challenge here is the uncertain charges for bandwidth. So we do need to prioritise this.
Snap.... i've not been on much at all..... I didn't realise quite how much i used Tapatalk until this forum was no longer on it......
You could of on the free Tier of AWS for the first year anyway Wibs. You don't need a monster server. The bandwidth costs would be minima and keep your bills down. Unlike the £4K AWS bill I've just had for the month
